John "Whitt" Whittington Obituary

John David “Whitt” Whittington, 70 of Butler passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021 due to cancer complications. He was born in Butler on January 27, 1951 to the late Jack and Thelma (Grossman) Whittington. John worked as a steel worker at Pangborn Abrasives until the plant closure. He then began working at James Austin Co. where he met his beautiful wife Lorna, who he shared his life with for more than 28 years. Where you would see John, you would see Lorna. John enjoyed doing everything with his wife, such as going to festivals, including their yearly trip to the Pittsburgh Blues Festival, concerts, flea markets, and especially their annual trip to Gettysburg for Bike Week on their Harley Davidson. He enjoyed music and sports, especially the Steelers. He loved his pets and treated them like children. After retiring, John began working as a custodian and worshiping at Hill United Presbyterian Church where John loved the members and called them “his church family”. He was loved and will be forever missed by his family, friends, church, co-workers, and neighbors. Along with his wife, he leaves behind three children, John (Nikki) Jr., Jeremy (Angie), and Benjamin (Laura) Whittington; step sons Doug (Kimberly) and Mike (Rachel) Dittmer; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren, and a step great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gary and his daughter in law Kimberly Dittmer. Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 13th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 NEW CASTLE RD. BUTLER, PA 16001, WWW.SPENCERDGEIBEL.COM. Prayers will immediately follow in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butler County Humane Society.
