John "Jack" McClelland Obituary

John “Jack” McClelland, 77, of the village of Meridian passed over to heaven Wednesday, October 27 at Good Samaritan Hospice from complications after hip surgery.
Born June 19, 1944, in Butler, he was the son of the late Gardiner E. and Esther (Beneigh) McClelland.

Jack graduated from Butler High School in 1962.   He graduated from the University of Cincinnati and was part of one of the best intramural basketball teams in UC history.  He was a metallurgical engineer and worked at Armco for 38 years in various managerial roles in quality, safety, and operations.   He is often remembered by former Armco employees as the guy who wore the “safari hat” and was liked by all who knew him.  He was a huge sports fan and Steelers season ticket holder attending many games even when Mark Malone was quarterback.  He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends and participated in many different golf leagues as well as “tea time” at W Rick’s during the offseason.   He valued his friends and family and spent many weekends at Camp 8 point making his world famous Manhattans.  He was a member of the Slovak Club and enjoyed dancing with the Golden Oldies at Tanglewood and at Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church Hall. He also loved his cats Samee and Tuxee.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years Carol (Gryback) McClelland and his brother Richard “Dick” McClelland.

Jack is survived by his his beloved wife Judith (Klein) McClelland, two children, Monica (Rich) Reges, Matt (Rana) McClelland, three grandchildren Rhiannon, Hayden, and Ian, sister Joan (Ed) Douglass, brother-in-law Bill Klein.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
